Vaccinations

As part of our preventative care, we recommend a course of three vaccinations for puppies and kittens starting at 6 weeks of age.

Puppies are vaccinated against Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvo virus and two strains of canine cough. Kittens are vaccinated against feline enteritis and two strains of cat flu (Herpes virus and Calici virus).

For cats that will be going outdoors, we also recommend feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) vaccination. This virus is transmitted via cat bites from infected cats and is commonly referred to as cat AIDS.

Checkups

Regular checkups play a crucial role in maintaining the health of your pet. After completion of the course of puppy and kitten vaccinations, we advise yearly vaccinations and health checks.

Regular visits allow us to perform a thorough physical examination and discuss diet, dental hygiene, parasite control, behavioural issues and any other concerns that you may have.

Senior Health Checks

Unfortunately, our furry friends age a lot faster than we do. Like us, the likelihood of chronic diseases such as chronic renal failure, diabetes, cancer, heart disease and dental disease increases greatly with age. Chronic diseases are often not diagnosed until quite late, as illness and pain in animals can be difficult to identify.

This is why we recommend senior health checks at 6-month intervals between yearly vaccinations for dogs and cats over 7 or 8 years old. As part of our senior health check, we recommend a urine analysis and a blood profile in addition to a thorough physical examination.

At these Senior Health Checks, we can discuss issues such as arthritis management, diet, dental and coat care, dementia, and other behavioural issues.
